What is a hybrid event? Well, it’s essentially a live event and a virtual event mashed together. Now, when we say “mashed” we ACTUALLY mean “expertly crafted, integrated. and executed”. It all starts with taking your live event including the live audience, the content, and any other elements, and adding a virtual component so your audience can participate and engage from wherever they are. Engagement is everything! It’s probably a hybrid events greatest strength and the biggest difference between a hybrid event and just showing a pre-recorded video. The audience feels like they aren’t merely WATCHING the event but actually ATTENDING it! Believe it or not, hybrid events aren’t some new development in the post pandemic world, they’ve actually been going on since 2012 at programming and hacking competitions! That makes perfect sense if you think about it; why would you need to physically be somewhere if the bulk of the action is taking place on your computer screen? But what if your audience aren’t a bunch of Red Bull chugging computer wizzes? The same principles apply, it’s all about keeping your virtual attendees glued to their screens as your live event plays out. Holding an audience's attention that takes more than just streaming the live event onto someone’s television, you’ll need to put the virtual and live attendees on the same level of participation, take them on the same journey, and make sure the virtual attendees are interacting in a seamless, user friendly way. That sounds like a lot? And it kind of is.
